This is my second year teaching second grade. In my ranch (some call it a classroom), we are shaping minds and hearts to be successful and contributing members of society. This blog will be to help reflect on our adventures.
I've learned that children thrive on routine and structure. Some of the routines that I have in the classroom involve a cowboy hat.

While working with a small group of students at a station, I give the other students their own instructions and put on my cowboy hat. That helps the other students know that they need to ask their friends for help before they ask me any questions. When the station is over or if I am checking on the rest of the class, then I remove my cowboy hat.
I also love having "Happy Trails to You" as a part of my dismissal routine. When the students hear the whistle of the song, they know that it is time to begin the dismissal procedures. I also use it to launch them and let them know that they will be missed at the ranch.
Thank you for visiting! Happy trails to you.
Mr. Wright
As an elementary school music teacher, it'd be a great idea if I also had a dismissal song like you do. Unfortunately, I don't have a classroom to dismiss them from!
ReplyDeleteMr. Wright, I love the ranch concept, and the cowboy hat, and the dismissal song. You are really creative. I will be implementing these things into my Pre-K class as soon as possible. I think they will love it. I love letting them know they'll be missed and will be seen again. Great blog, please keep it up... I'd love to learn more of your ideas. Thanks, Ms. Tegs
ReplyDeleteI love how you created a name for your classroom to keep it creative and fun! I know your 2nd grade students must enjoy the music as well. I enjoyed reading your welcome message! You have great ideas.

I like how you made a name for your classroom. When I get my own I may have to come up with one of those! Very creative!!!
